I see a lot of business plans and investment pitches every week, and from an investor's or mentor's perspective I hate video. I can't digest it easily whilst on the move, I can't print it out, and if it moves at a snail's pace I'm a captive, bored audience... or rather, I'm not, because I'll only watch a second or two.
12secondsTV (http://12seconds.tv/) are on to a winner with their 12-second videos, but I think they'd be twice as good if they were 6secondsTV. Yes, video can show that you're creative, and it can be effective, but that's all about how and where you use it. Just as you should be disciplined to keep other pitches short, keep your video short if it's a primary pitch resource, and provide the data in other formats. Video is an emotive topic and I'm sure everyone will have a different view. I'm not writing from a customer's POV. No doubt plenty of investors here will say they love it! A

Hi Barbara,
If you're considering a do-it-yourself option Camtasia Studio can't be beat for screencasts. The output quality, productivity features and distribution formats are just right. I agree 100% with you Aidan. About the only time I'll watch a video is
if there's some complicated set of technical things which has not been adequately described in the documentation. Hello All,
I'm not at all clued-up re IT / Web issues etc but I'm in the process of getting the content together for my intended web-site and have heard that some video helps to get you found sooner via google (youtube links etc)? Is that BS and is it worth inc say, 12 seconds as suggested, to improve your hit-rate? Adrian Just saw your note about attracting investors for your new start up. You should bear in mind that this is classed as ?offering securities? in the eyes of the
law. There are many ways of doing it, but you have to jump through some legal hoops or risk legal sanctions. Feel free to get in touch if you want to explore this in more detail. Contacts details are below. Good luck. Best wishes, William Robins Partner dd: 020 7152 6550 m:

Barbara, I don´t know if I can help you, I´m a partner in an Art Contemporary gallery and 1 year ago we need to create a video encouraging artists to participate in a contest organized by us. It´s the first time doing a video but I think it´s not very difficult, I know that is not the better video in the world and also I know that I can do better for the next time. You can do something similar or ask for somebody to do it for you.
I´ve use free music on the net, a digital video camera with a external microphone and a soft named Final Cut for Mac. Aidan, you are correct, a video might be sort, but only 12 secs?? it depends on the characteristics of the product/service for example some TV spots are very well done and very sort, Barbara, you can be inspired with it. Video it´s a good idea to promote something, because people don´t like to think or read and you can catch more audience for example with viral promotion on youtube, facebook etc.. And sorry for my english :) Regards On Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 5:42 PM, Barbara <[hidden email]> wrote:

The two
objectives are completely different, No1 is tool to teach user the work process
and No2 is a marketing tool. You can only use No2 where you have sufficient
content/portfolio to demonstrate success. I have made video’s including one
used by a company to win £3 million for cap exp for a brand extension with the Blackstone
group. Videos cost, 5K upwards for anything half decent. If the
product is good, the next most important aspect of the pitch is the sales
person, this is where you should look – print/web/pdf/powerpoint can do the
rest with good design. Purplehouse

Thanks for the note, but I'm Aidan, not Adrian... and I'm not launching a new start-up. Or rather, I am, but I've not mentioned any of them here... I am well acquainted with the legislation and regulation around brokering in the UK, not least as I need be to help others to raise investment. I'd refer any who are interested to the FSA's handbook PERG 2 in the first instance (http://fsahandbook.info/FSA/html/handbook/PERG/2 "Perimeter guidance on regulated activities", but of course, always ask a lawyer. As you brought that up, I'll likely give you a bell over the coming weeks on unrelated issue that you might be able to advise on... Nice work Robert, you should consider putting your work on Vimeo, all exposure is good and may lead to more commissions!
